Multi-Media Journalist. Yorkshire Coast Radio. Scarborough. Yorkshire (Paid)

At Yorkshire Coast Radio we had some unexpected visitors recently. The entire Scarborough Borough Council Cabinet arrived at the radio station unannounced because they were “in the area” and the leader wanted everyone to see our facilities and meet the whole team. Why?

Well, we are not a typical commercial radio station. We have a 43% weekly reach, a 91% awareness score, a Facebook audience that represents 45% of our TSA and the area’s leading news website.

We run an integrated news and programming team which delivers local news coverage across all our platforms seven days a week and we focus on the local issues, we cover them with integrity and passion and we are committed to being the Yorkshire Coast’s news provider, that’s why.

If you get why all that’s important then we’d like you to join our team. We are looking for a multimedia journalist to be based in our Scarborough office on the beautiful Yorkshire Coast.

You’ll be a key part of our newsroom. You need to be a self-starter who can bring ideas to the team, identify and develop stories and bring them alive for the audience on our website, social media channels and radio output. You need to be able to set up and conduct interviews, produce web copy, video and audio. You need to be able to source and edit pictures as well as compile and deliver live on-air radio bulletins and news flashes.

You’ll be working as part of a passionate and supportive team, but you’ll also need the confidence to make editorial decisions when working on your own.

The job involves getting out of the office and reporting from the field, being an ambassador for the station and building relationships. Our journalists work on a rotating shift pattern including breakfast shifts and working one weekend in three.

We don’t do hubbing, we just do proper local radio. If you love telling the story of the day with passion and clarity then we’d love to hear from you.

You’ll need strong legal knowledge and a full, clean driving licence.
