Colin Murray - BBC 5 Live, BBC Radio Ulster, BBC Tv’s Match of the Day 2

colin-murray-face-pic-1Award winning radio presenter, he has 3 Gold Sony Awards to his name, Colin Murray stumbled into radio accidentally but since then has worked tremendously hard to be where he is today. Colin first becamse really well known in radio when he teamed up with Edith Bowman on BBC Radio 1  in 2003. Colin spoke backstage at last years Student Radio Awards to the Pips about how he got into radio, his work ethic, his advice for people who wish to work in radio and his rather unique one tip for people who wish to work in broadcasting 

Scott Mills & Annie Mac - BBC Radio 1

scott-mills-face-picThis years hosts of the 2011 Student Radio Awards were Scott Mills and Annie Mac from BBC Radio 1. Scott Mills once was the youngest professional radio presenters in the UK and has worked at Radio 1 since 1998. Annie Mac is a radio presenter and tv presenter who has just become the new Chair of the Student Radio Awards. Both of them spoke to the Pips after the Awards and talked about how they got into radio and offered their advice for you to do the same.

Dave Gorman & Geoff Lloyd - Absolute Radio

absolute-logo1Dave Gorman and Geoff Lloyd have taken two very different paths into radio. One used to hang around radio station hoping to get a foot in the door, the other one….didnt. He decided a career in comedy was for him before he found his passion for radio. Absolute Radio’s Dave Gorman and Geoff Lloyd have taken time out to talk to the Pips about how they got into radio, kissing bottoms and they offer advice for people who wish to work in radio 

Adam Catterall - BBC Radio 1

adam-catterallAdam Catterall won a competition in 2003 to become the newest member of Rock Fm’s Thunder Team, and has sinced climbed his way from overnights on Rock Fm in Preston to presenting on BBC Radio 1. He has also voiced tv commercials and is a tv continuity announcer. Adam is also the host of Demo Factor at the Student Radio Conferences and that is where he found time to talk to the Pips.

 

Greg James & Huw Stephens - BBC Radio 1. Steve Lamacq - BBC Radio 2, BBC 6 Music

greg-james-face-pic-2Radio 1’s Greg James and Huw Stephens both hosted this years Student Radio Awards at the O2 Arena. The Pips caught up with the pair backstage after the event and asked them for their advice and tips for people who wish to work in radio.  Steve Lamacq, a previous host of the awards, formerly of Radio 1, now BBC Radio 2 and BBC 6 Music also spoke to the Pips. 

 

Tim Westwood - BBC Radio 1 & Radio 1xtra

tim-westwood-picWestwood has been at Radio 1 since 1994 and can currently be found presenting on Saturday night, 9-11pm (broadcast simultaneously on Radio 1xtra), and on weekday’s for Radio 1xtra from 4pm. The Pips caught up with Westwood backstage at the recent Student Radio Awards and we asked him what advice would he give newcomers trying to break into radio, plus NEWS FLASH! he’s looking for an intern….

Chris Birks - Presenter on the Hit Music Network, Global
