Student Radio Awards 2011

student-radio-awards-pic1The Student Radio Awards have celebrated talent and excellence since 1996 and have helped kick start many a successful career in broadcasting including that of Radio 1’s Greg James. This years event was hosted by Radio 1’s Scott Mills and Annie Mac who is the new Chair of the Awards. The Pips were also there and have spoken to all the winners on the night and this is your chance to hear what they had to say.

James Walshe - Programme Director, Kerrang Radio

Martyn Littlewood - Presenter at Fly Fm. Wants to be a professional radio presenter

His ambitions are to be a professional radio presenter but is working on a large skillset to work his way into a station in other ways if needed. Chris spoke to the Pips recently about how he started in radio and his advice for those who wish to work in broadcasting.

 

Richard Park - Group Executive Director & Director of Broadcasting, Global Radio

The former programme controller of Capital FM and BBC1’s Fame Academy is now the Group Executive Director & Director of Broadcasting, Global Radio. Richard has played a part in the career of many of the most famous broadcasters you hear on radio today, and the Pips caught up with Richard backstage at the recent Studio Radio Awards to talk to him about what he thinks of the future talent in radio, and his advice for people who wish to work in broadcasting.

Phil Korbel - Director of Radio Regen in Manchester

David Walker - Chair of the Student Radio Association

sra-logoDavid Walker is the Chair of the Student Radio Association (SRA) who represent radio stations in universities, colleges and schools across the UK. The highlight of the year for the SRA is the Student Radio Awards which have started the career of many broadcasters, Greg James of Radio 1 was a winner a few years ago. David has spoken to the Pips about the awards and how you can enter and get involved.

Toby Whitehouse - Station Director of Gaydio in Manchester

Carole Fleming - Course leader at the Centre for Broadcast Journalism

After years working in radio as a news reporter and producer, for both the BBC and ILR, Carole Fleming is now the course leader for the BA (Hons) in Broadcast Journalism and the MA in Radio Journalism at the Centre for Broadcasting and Journalism in Nottingham Trent University. Among her publications is The Radio Handbook (3rd Edition), published by Routledge, which examines the radio industry in the UK. 

Aziz Rashid - Head of regional and local programmes for BBC North West

aziz-rashidAziz Rashid is in charge of all local BBC programming, both tv and radio for the North West region of England. Aziz has worked for the BBC for 20 years and has worked his way up from the bottom. Aziz has been talking to The Pips about his career and listen to his advice on how you should go about trying to work for the BBC if you wish to do so.

 

Guy Harris - Voice Artist

guy-harris-2Guy Harris is the voice of 1000’s of commercials on Radio & TV in the UK and worldwide.  Guy is  one of the UK’s busiest voice artists, providing voices for TV & Radio, Toys, Ring Tones, Video Games and he has spoken to the Pips and offered his advice on what you should do if you wish to be a voice artist.
