Short Stories Cut by Radio 4

Writers are protesting over the latest news that Radio 4 is to cut the networks short story output.  Radio 4 Controller Gwyneth Williams met members of the Society of Authors last week.  The cull is happening to accomodate an extension of the ‘World at One’ from its current 30 mins slot to 45 minutes.  The changes will be active from April next year, resulting in the network’s commissions falling from 144 to 102 a year.  Even with the cuts Radio 4 will remain the largest commissioner of short stories in the UK with the rumour mill saying that there are plans to boost the genre with a new slot on 4 Extra.

Rock Radio a Go Go!

GMG radio is having a shake up.  The wheels are in motion to sell its Glasgow-based Rock Radio Station in a managment buyout.  Helping make this happen in Billy Anderson, brand managing director of Rock Radio and sister network Real Radio, who will be  leaving GMG Radio to lead the purchase of the Scottish station. In the meantime the group’s Manchester station, launched in 2008, is set be renamed as Real Radio XS.  The station will be rebranded in September and put on a regional digital audio broadcasting (DAB) platform across the north-west of England.

RIP to Dan Peak the founder of  America, who passed away last week aged 60.  He penned one of my favorite songs  ‘Horse with no name’ .  Long may their music continue to fill our airwaves.
