Chorlton FM is back!

Tuesday, April 5th, 2011

Calling all potential radio presenters!

Chorlton Arts Radio is back again and broadcasting on 87.7FM!

Chorlton Arts Radio returns again this May to support the Chorlton Arts Festival but they’ve changed their name to Chorlton FM! Why? Building on the success of last year’s online station, this year the station will broadcast on 87.7FM in South Manchester from the 16th to the 29th May from it’s studio in Chorlton Precinct.

Dave Murat, head of Chorlton FM said: “Thanks to CityBranch and a grant from the Big Lottery Fund we’re able to broadcast from the precinct again and will be taking over the empty Polish shop. We’re delighted to be able to bring the station back to Chorlton Precinct and be able to reach more listeners by being on FM.  It’s an excellent opportunity for individuals and groups to get involved in this years broadcast.”

“We’re broadening our output this year to promote not only artists and creative people across the area but also community groups and with this in mind we’re supporting Chorlton Good Neighbours as out chosen charity and have teamed up with Tag Pass It On a local discount shopping scheme to promote local traders in Chorlton”

Dave and the Chorlton FM team will be holding a public meeting at Lloyds Hotel, Wilbraham Road on Wednesday 13th April 2011 at 7pm to meet with potential volunteers, community groups and anyone who would like to get involved this year in Chorlton FM.

Dave said “We’re particularly looking for people and groups who haven’t been involved in radio broadcasts in the past as we can train people in radio, but we’re open to anyone who wants to get involved. If you have an idea that we could develop for use on the radio – a play, a sketch show, poetry or creative writing we would love to hear from you. But you don’t have to go on the air; we’ll have roles in Marketing and Promotion as well”

Dave went on to say “We could be starting someone off to be the next Melvyn Bragg! Come and join in! “
