Gavin Puszczalowskyi - Helping you take the next step in radio
Gavin first became interested in radio when he worked at a biscuit factory in North Derbyshire around the late 90’s. He used to work in the warehouse and would listen to the radio during all of his working day and fancied having a go.
After going on a radio training course at a local station, and sending letters out to loads of stations, he ended up presenting the weekday breakfast show at a student radio station in Sheffield called Forge FM. He did this even though he wasn’t a student and he had to get up at 5 am to do the show, to then work a full day at the biscuit factory when the show was finished. After Forge Fm, he enrolled at Nottingham Hospitals Radio (NHR) in 1997. Gavin would jump in his car and drive the 60 miles plus round trip to NHR. He did this for 3 years while still working full time.
Eventually, after winning the NHR Best Member Award, he left hospital radio in 2000 and started helping out behind the scenes at Trent Fm in Nottingham at the weekends, all the while still working full time at the biscuit factory in North Derbyshire. Gavin also did some work for an RSL (Restricted Service Licence, its when a radio station can broadcast for a limited period of time!) in Melton Mowbray. Eventually a demo reached Peak Fm in Chesterfield where Gavin was offered a Saturday morning breakfast show in 2003.
For 3 months, Gavin worked the week in the factory and the weekend at Peak FM, but that changed when he was offered the drive time show on Peak Fm. After 6 years of trying, Gavin had landed his first professional radio job.
Less than 2 years later Gavin was offered the role as the weekday Breakfast presenter at Severn Sound in Gloucester, which he accepted. During his 2 years there he won the GCap Best Newcomer to Breakfast award. He left Severn Sound in 2007 to become a freelance presenter.
Recently Gavin has been a freelance presenter for a number of different radio stations owned by a number of different radio groups. Most noticeably and recently for the BBC in both Manchester and Sheffield.
