Danielle Porter - Helping you take the next step in radio
After finishing university Danielle like most students didn’t know what to do! She had always fancied a career in radio but didn’t know how to go about it until she saw an ad in the paper from the EMAP radio group looking for a researcher. Danielle was employed to cold call people to find out what radio stations they listened to in and around the North West, not the most glamorous job but everyone has to start somewhere. From this position she was able to get some work experience in the Key 103 news room in Manchester.
Danielle was sold on a career in broadcasting but was unsure in which direction to go, until she was a guest on All Fm, a local community radio station in Manchester. This led to her co-presenting the breakfast show whilst holding down temporary jobs. Everyday rain or shine she would get up a 5am and travel across Manchester to present the show and then tootle off to work for 10am. A year later she said good bye to her employers to start her new position at ALLfm, working as a Radio Trainer engaging residents from the community producing a diverse range of programmes. Danielle fell in love with community radio and worked her way up to Station Manager running several short term radio stations in Bolton most notably Washacre Fm which was awarded most Innovative Project in 2008. During this period she had done stints at the BBC as a Broadcast Assistant and Broadcaster, worked for Traffic Link editing and broadcasting travel news for several commercial radio stations and she has compered several music events.
Today Danielle has a weekly show on BBC Radio Manchester, is a freelance Broadcast Journalist and a Community Radio Consultant.
